Bridge in Welland open ahead of schedule
Some good news for people who were inconvenienced by a bridge closure in Welland.
The Forks Road Bridge repair has been completed ahead of schedule, and is now open to pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
Drivers are reminded that the original load restriction (5 tonnes per axle) remains in effect for the entire length of Forks Road, including the Forks Road Bridge, and that this restriction will be strictly enforced.
The Forks Road Bridge leading to Dain City was closed April 29th due to structural damage from corrosion.
City Council approved immediate maintenance of the bridge on May 3rd, which initiated a work-plan and schedule of repairs by Rankin Construction and Black Creek Metal on May 6th.
Officials say an estimate for completing the repairs was scheduled for May 19th, however, with diligence to completing the project early, the bridge is now suitable and safe for pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
