This unique project involved the installation of seven 45 metre long stream flow deflector walls in the Martindale Pond. These deflectors were designed to equalize the current for the Henley Rowing Course lanes in preparation for the 1999 World Rowing Championship. The work required the use of specialized equipment to drill for sockets below water then place steel H-Piles and tremie concrete into the augered sockets to very strict tolerances. Concrete panels were precast on land then placed between the H-Piles to form the required walls. A reinforced concrete cap beam was then poured along the top of each wall. Crews faced unfavourable winter weather and very strong currents, which created challenging work conditions.
